Ignite

Whilst dementia causes memory loss and impairment, memory for music remains and often ignites emotional response. The CSO has developed a multi-week programme for people living with dementia who along with their whānau and volunteers, listen to, take part in, and enjoy a range of musical activities.

This programme is an expansion of our highly successful Flourish programme, which we have run in conjunction with Dementia Canterbury since 2019.

During Ignite sessions, participants take part in music-based activities in a comfortable and friendly environment where they can chat with each other and with musicians of the CSO. The activities include singing familiar songs, playing instruments like harps, ukuleles, drums and violins, music appreciation and musical bingo.

The programme is free of charge and will run in four blocks during the year. Participants can attend as many or as few sessions as they wish. There is no obligation at all. Each session will be on Monday from 10-11am.
