Okioki: Music for Respite in Healthcare Settings

Flourish

Retaining active involvement with music is proven to have very real and immediate benefits for brain health. Flourish is a multi-week programme where participants join our musicians for music appreciation and interactive fun. Some sessions can be accessed independently or through Dementia Canterbury – our valued partner.

2026 public session dates coming soon.

CSO Music Therapy Collaborations

In partnership with the team at Southern Music Therapy, we’re making a difference for people in our community who need a hand rehabilitating from Stroke, are living with multiple sclerosis and Parkinson's disease, or have neurological impairment. We're running creative sessions for neurodiverse high school students, using music as a tool to build social confidence.

Arts-inclusion Workshop

A 45-minute arts-inclusion workshop for neurodiverse children aged 7–10 and their parents/caregivers.

In a small, supportive group, children will explore live music and a range of instruments with professional musicians from Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, alongside music therapists who support sensory needs and individual participation.

Children are free to engage in ways that feel comfortable – listening, observing, moving, or playing instruments – creating a positive, low-pressure musical experience that encourages curiosity, confidence, and social connection.
