Ki te Hapori In the Community

Puoro mā te katoa

Music is for everyone.

We make it our mission to remove barriers that stand in the way of people engaging in life-changing, live music-based experiences through immersion. This includes our world-leading Ki te Hapori In the Community programme. Demand for this programme continues to grow.

In 2025 we undertake a minimum of 42 bespoke programmes, engaging with 36,000+ participants, with an emphasis on working with young people, people with disabilities and others from our community who, for a range of reasons, face barriers that prevent them from engaging in live music-based
experiences.

An orchestra is about more than performance. It is a catalyst for creating energy, growth and connection within people and communities. Music gives us inspiration, hope and joy. It propels us to explore and wonder. It does our world a power of good.

There are five strands to our Ki te Hapori In the Community mahi:

Hiki Orotau Tune Up

Hiki Orotau provides a wide range of activities designed to tune up people’s musical skills. From instrument and composition workshops to playing alongside our orchestra, Hiki Orotau activities are ideal for students and aspiring musicians regardless of age or stage; school groups; and experienced players seeking a little extra motivation or guidance.

Featured projects: Instruments in Focus, Chamber Music Weekend, Play with CSO, and Piano Play Day.
