Rebecca Ryan
Soprano Rebecca Ryan first came to international prominence giving the UK première of Handel’s rediscovered Gloria at London’s Royal Academy.A graduate of Otago University, she won the New Zealand Performing Arts National Award for Singing before moving to London where she studied at the Royal Academy of Music (ARAM) with Penelope Mackay. She was an Associate Artist with the Classical Opera Company in London and an Independent Opera at Sadler's Wells' Voice Fellowship recipient enabling advanced study with Dame Anne Evans.Rebecca has appeared in concert and operatic performances worldwide in a varied repertoire from J.S. Bach, Pergolesi and Handel to Mozart, Mahler, Poulenc and Strauss at venues such including Wigmore Hall, Wiltons (London’s first music hall), Hampton Court Palace, Royal Festival Hall, Sydney Opera House and Auckland Town Hall, and for companies such asOpera in a Day's Bay Garden, Wellington, Scottish Opera, Opera North, Royal Opera, Opera Project, University of Otago Opera, Buxton Festival, Auckland Opera Studio and Southern Opera.Recordings include Handel's Silete venti for Naxos, Heavenly Voice Don Carlos for Chandos, Ch’io mi scordi di te (with Barry Douglas) for RTÉ TV’s The Symphony Sessions and Exsultate Jubilate for RTÉ TV’s The Mozart Sessions.Father and Son: Music by John and Anthony Ritchie for Ode Records was released in 2014.More recently, Rebecca has been performing, recording and teaching in New Zealand while she raises her young children.
