Naomi Ferguson

Naomi Ferguson is an artist of great versatility known for her embodiment of character and storytelling through the medium of song. She has worked nationally in Aotearoa for 30 years across concerts, arts and music festivals, musical theatre, and theatre; with ensembles, bands, and in solo performances accompanying herself on piano. She is also an accomplished recording artist and songwriter whose work has been used in film and theatre projects.
In recent years she has performed as a soloist with Auckland Philharmonia, Orchestras Central, Orchestra Wellington, Christchurch Symhony Orchestra and Dunedin Symphony Orchestra across a variety of repertoire, including the premiere of Te Reo ki Ōtākaro by Reuben de Lautour and Mahina-Ina Kingi-Kaui with the CSO. She has headlined the Tauranga Jazz Festival as well as being a regular headliner at the International Jazz and Blues Festival for over a decade in Ōtautahi Christchurch. Her spellbinding collaboration with acclaimed opera singer, Deborah Wai Kapohe, has seen her further develop her love of performing music from a wide range of genres.
Naomi has a particular interest in the intersection of music and theatre and writes and produces her own shows. Most recently she presented her sold out show, Songs for Fallen Women, at The Piano, and as part of the CSO’s Studio Sessions in 2023. Another of her shows, Songs My Mother Taught Me, was commissioned by the Christchurch Arts Festival, programmed at the St James in Wellington, and then had a 21 date tour of the country.
