Coming up in June...

The CSO's Community Engagement Programme is full of opportunities for music enthusiasts of all ages and levels to participate in live music experiences.

In June, we have two Music Trails performances taking place in Matuku Takotako: Sumner Centre on Wednesday 8 June with a CSO Wind Ensemble, and another on Wednesday 22 June with a String and Harp Ensemble in Shirley Library. Both of these sessions are free of charge and start at 10.30am. Come along and join the musicians on these fun, interactive 45-minute performances full of music, dancing, singing, and storytelling — the perfect way to introduce the little ones to live music.

The next session of On the Road will be taking place on Tuesday 21 June in Kaiapoi Library from 3.30pm to 4.30pm, and everyone is welcome to come and jam with some musicians from the CSO in a Matariki-themed creative soundscape workshop. Pick up a ukulele, or some drums, or bring your own instrument. No previous musical skill is required and it's all free.

Registrations are still open if you'd like to come and observe "The Big Blowout": a CSO masterclass for woodwind players on Monday 13 June, 4-6pm. CSO Principal Flute Hannah Darroch and Associate Principal Oboe Ashleigh Mowbray will be giving some handy hints and friendly tips on practising, performing, and all things related to playing woodwind instruments.
